Reservoir Swap for Aftermarket FLOAT X Shocks on Specialized Kenevo SL Frames

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves during service to prevent potential injury. Failure to wear protective equipment during service may lead to SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

When installing an aftermarket FLOAT X shock for use on a Specialized Kenevo SL you must swap out the reservoir for a shorter length to prevent frame contact at bottom out.

The Specialized Kenevo SL utilizes a 230 x 62.5 shock. The stock reservoir for that travel of FLOAT X shock is the 227-09-052 (Reservoir: 2022 FLOAT X & DHX, Long Travel, TLG 64.9).

The 227-09-051 (Reservoir: 2022 FLOAT X & DHX, Medium Travel, TLG 60.8) must be installed when utilizing a FLOAT X shock on a Specialized Kenevo SL frame. The IFP depth should be set to 37mm (+/- 1.25mm) after swapping to the medium travel reservoir.

Please use the 2022 FLOAT X Rebuild procedure for information on removal and replacement of the reservoir.

As a general practice you should always check for clearance before riding when installing a new shock.

If you are installing a shock on a bike for which the shock was not original equipment, follow the steps below to ensure proper clearance before riding.

  1. Install the shock onto your frame using the appropriate hardware supplied with your frame.
  2. Remove the air cap, attach a shock pump, then SLOWLY release all air out of the main air chamber.
  3. Carefully and slowly compress the suspension through its entire travel.
  4. Check that no part of your shock contacts any portion of your frame or linkage as it cycles through its travel.
  5. Add air pressure to the main air chamber in ~50 psi (3.4 bar) increments, slowly cycling the shock after every 50 psi (3.4 bar) addition.
