2016 32mm/34mm FLOAT Air Spring Tuning with Air Volume Spacers

Required Tools

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves during service to prevent potential injury. Failure to wear protective equipment during service may lead to SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Changing volume spacers in the 32/34 FLOAT fork is an easy internal adjustment that allows you to change the amount of mid stroke and bottom out resistance.

  • If you have set your sag correctly and are using full travel (bottoming out) too easily, then you could install one or more spacers to increase bottom out resistance.

  • If you have set your sag correctly and are not using full travel, then you could remove one or more spacers to decrease bottom out resistance.

  • The 32mm FLOAT, FLOAT SC, Rhythm, and AX volume spacer PN: 234-04-811 is blue and has a volume of 8cc

  • The 34mm FLOAT, FLOAT SC, and Rhythm volume spacer PN: 234-04-953 is green and has a volume of 10cc
    • When using 6 or more air volume spacers, you must use the green 34mm air volume spacer (PN: 234-04-953) in the 6th and lower positions to prevent rattling in the larger internal diameter portion of the upper tube.
  • 34mm Speed-Ped-Elec Volume Spacer PN: 234-04-811 is blue and has a volume of 8cc

Some 32mm FLOAT forks come with a factory installed hollow volume spacer pictured below. Standard blue 32mm volume spacers can be added to the hollow volume spacer to further reduce air volume if desired.

The following instructions guide you through the removal or installation of the FLOAT volume spacers.

WARNING: FOX products should be serviced by a trained bicycle service technician, in accordance with FOX specifications. If you have any doubt whether or not you can properly service your FOX product, then DO NOT attempt it. Improperly serviced products can fail, causing the rider to lose control resulting in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

WARNING: Never attempt to modify air volume spacers, as this can damage your fork causing a loss of control of the bicycle leading to SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.

WARNING: FOX suspension products contain pressurized nitrogen, air, oil, or all 3. Suspension misuse can cause property damage, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. DO NOT puncture, incinerate or crush any portion of a FOX suspension product. DO NOT attempt to disassemble any portion of a FOX suspension product, unless expressly instructed to do so by the applicable FOX technical documentation, and then ONLY while strictly adhering to all FOX instructions and warnings in that instance.

WARNING: Modification, improper service, or use of aftermarket replacement parts with FOX forks and shocks may cause the product to malfunction, resulting in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. DO NOT modify any part of a fork or shock, including the fork brace (lower leg cross brace), crown, steerer, upper and lower leg tubes, or internal parts, except as instructed herein. Any unauthorized modification may void the warranty, and may cause failure or the fork or shock, resulting in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Step 1

Remove the blue air cap and cover the air valve with a rag as you release the air pressure.

WARNING: Please verify that all air has been released from the air chamber by pushing down on the Schrader valve core. Failure to release all air pressure before further disassembly may cause parts to eject causing SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH.

Step 2

With a chamfer-less 6-point 26mm socket (PN: 398-00-602), unthread the topcap assembly completely (counter-clockwise). Pull straight up to remove the entire topcap assembly from the left side upper tube. Some upward force might be needed to overcome the friction of the stock air volume spacer.

NOTE: 32mm fork shown with largest of 3 hollow volume spacers, use the same procedure for 34mm forks.

Step 3

Slide the air volume spacer or spacers horizontally to install or remove from the topcap.

NOTE: 2 32mm volume spacers are being removed in this example.

DO NOT remove the hollow volume spacer from the topcap on 32mm forks. This spacer must be utilized if it came stock in your fork.

For 34mm forks, when using 6 or more air volume spacers, you must use the green 34mm air volume spacer (PN: 234-04-953) in the 6th and lower positions to prevent rattling in the larger internal diameter portion of the upper tube.

WARNING: DO NOT exceed the maximum number or volume spacers listed in the tables below, as this can damage your fork causing a loss of control of the bicycle leading to SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
