Use 820-00-129-KIT Service Set: Lever Housing Assy: Float X CTD Remote to convert your 2014 or 2015 FLOAT X CTD to remote.
Use 820-07-122-KIT Service Set: Lever Housing Assy: 2016 Float X Remote to convert your 2016 or 2017 FLOAT X 3pos to remote
Once converted, you will need to use the 2014 CTD Remote Lever PN: 820-07-033 or the 2017 2 position remote PN:820-07-124 .
The following instructions guide you through converting a 2014-2017 FLOAT X with levers to one with a remote handlebar lever that can actuate both front forks as well as rear shocks with optional splitter assembly PN: 803-00-817 (for use with the 2014 lever. No splitter is needed with the 2017 2pos remote).
WARNING: Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves during service to prevent potential injury. Failure to wear protective equipment during service may lead to SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Remote Conversion
Step 1
Set the shock to Descend mode (turning the blue CTD lever to the down position inline with the shock). Use a 1.5mm hex wrench to remove the two set screws that hold the Lever Housing Assembly to the Eyelet. Separate the Lever Housing Assembly from the Eyelet.
Step 2
Prepare to install the FLOAT X CTD Remote Lever Housing Assembly PN: 820-00-129-KIT by aligning the threaded holes in the Lever Housing Mounting Plate by turning them until inline with the shock. Insert the two set screws removed in step one into the holes in the new Lever Housing Assembly.
Step 3
Install the Remote Lever Housing Assembly into the Eyelet being careful of the sharp edges of the eyelet. Torque the two set screws to 3.5 in-lb (0.4 Nm).
Reversing the FLOAT X Remote rear shock cable stop
The instructions below guide you through the procedure of reversing the cable stop orientation of the FLOAT X Remote. This procedure should only be done with the Remote Lever Housing Assembly removed from the shock. Never attempt to reverse the cable stop direction with the Remote Lever Housing Assembly still attached to the shock.
Step 1
Use a 1.5mm hex wrench to remove the two set screws that hold the Lever Housing Assembly to the Eyelet, set shock aside for now. Hold the Lever Housing Assembly and remove the set screw that holds the cover plate with your 1.5mm hex wrench. Set the screw and cover plate aside.
Step 2
Mark the flat side of the silver cam that the blue pulleys set screw is pinched against. Later when reversing cable stop direction you will reinstall the blue pulley onto the opposite side of the silver cam. Unthread the set screw that holds the blue pulley to the cam with a 1.5mm hex wrench. Remove the pulley.
Step 3
Remove the wire retaining ring followed by the black housing stop.
The FLOAT X CTD Remote cable stop can be oriented in either the up or down position but must always remain inline with the shock. Never attempt to mount the cable stop in any position other than up or down.
Step 4
Install the housing stop in either the up or down position (up position is shown). Install the wire retaining ring.
Step 5
Thread in the set screw that attaches the blue pulley to the cam just far enough to slip onto the cam and let you rotate the cam with the pulley.
You can use a 1.5mm hex wrench in the cable fixing bolt to help turn the pulley/cam.
Excess spring preload will permanently damage the torsion spring and cause premature failure of the assembly. In either cable orientation the sping should only be preloaded approximately 120 degrees.
Step 6
Position the blue pulley so the pulley fixing set screw is loosely against the unmarked flat of the silver cam. Rotate the cam about 120 degrees with the pulley until the tab of the pulley passes the notch on the housing stop. Once the tab of the pulley is past the notch on the housing stop, slide the pulley all the way onto the cam. Tighten the set screw that attaches the pulley to the cam to 5 in-lb (0.5 Nm).
Step 7
Test for correct installation by using a 1.5mm hex wrench in one of the set screws to help you turn the pulley clockwise to the stop and back 5-6 times. The pulley should rotate smoothly and return to the stop with some force.
Step 8
Replace the cover plate and torque the set screw to 5 in-lb (0.5 Nm). You are now ready to install your cable per the FLOAT CTD Remote installation instructions ».
NOTE: Actuate the release lever with the suspension unweighted for immediate changes between damping settings. Actuating the release lever with the suspension under load may cause a slight delay transitioning between damping modes.
