FOX athlete wins again in second round of cross-country ATV racing series
Chris Borich battled a muddy course in Georgia to come out with his second consecutive win in the Pro ATV class as Chris Bithell charged his way into the top five.
03.28.12 FOX athlete Chris Borich claimed victory once again as he topped the Pro ATV podium in round two of the 2012 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series in Washington, Ga., while fellow FOX athlete Chris Bithell took on the tough course and overcame challenges to finish in the top five.
Great weather was on hand for race day at the Aonia Pass Motocross Park, but rain that had fallen in the days before left some muddy spots in the wooded sections of the course and created some rough conditions. Borich was up for the challenge as he continued his momentum from his win at round one of the series.
Yoshimuras Borich had a good start and was quick off the line. He was in the top three of a freight train of riders as they headed into the woods. Positions were swapped several times in the course of the next few laps, but with only seconds separating him from the leaders, and a rough track, Borich knew to pace himself. He waited until the final lap and then took over the lead.
Once out front, Borich pulled away from his competition and took the win by almost a minute. This is the second win of the season for the reigning champion, and if he has it his way, it wont be the last time he puts FOX on the podium.
I felt great out there today. The track was rough, but my FOX suspension was amazing and helped me get through the toughest sections of the track to take the win, Borich said. Im going for as many wins as possible, and with the help of FOX, I think it will be a great season.
Can-Am/Motoworks backed FOX athlete Bithell was on a mission after getting pinched out on the start and falling to just inside the top 10. Bithell put the hammer down and made an incredible charge for the front despite the rough track. He made his way into second place by the third lap and was chasing down the leader.
Unfortunately for Bithell, he encountered issues in the final lap and fell back, finishing in the number five spot. Bithell, sitting third in overall points, is one of the fastest racers in the series.
One of the fastest growing genres of racing at the GNCC series is the utility task vehicle (UTV) classes. FOX athletes Kyle Chaney and Simon Belzile, piloting the Can-Am/Motoworks Commander UTV in the XC1 Modified class, looked sharp as they pushed their machine to its limits.
This was the first race of the season for the UTV classes, and everyone was eager to get started. The Can-Am/Motoworks team shot off the line in the number five position, but they were not about to settle for anything less than a spot on the podium.
The team charged their way past the competition and took over second place in the final lap before reaching the checkered flag and putting FOX on the podium.
Next up for many FOX athletes is round three of the GNCC series, which will be held on March 31 at Steel Creek Campground in Morganton, N.C.
