07.18.11 Just back from a terrible weekend over in Harthill, Cheshire.
The weather was horrendous. Heavy rain and gale force winds on race day meant it was going to be a tough day of racing against other riders and mother nature!
The day began well with some good practice and a good feeling on the track. I had practiced all my lines and felt confident for qualifying.
With 5 minutes to go the heavens opened and the rain came. I had a good run, but slid out in one of the lower turns and lost loads of time. Still, in the conditions I was happy to stay on and I qualified in 6th position. Not ideal, but staying on the bike was the aim in that qualifying session.
Onto the racing and I felt really confident. I won my first round, my second round, the quarter final and the semi final to land in the final. My 6th in qualifying meant I had third pick on the start. As it was lane two was available so I took it, wanting to be on the inside for turn one. I made a great start and led into turn one. Unfortunately the rider on the inside of me hit me on the entry to the turn and I lost control. We both crashed out of the race which was a real shame.
I grabbed my bike and got going again as soon as possible and made it to the finish in 3rd position. Not the result we went for at all, but luckily no injuries and I can move on to the next race.
