Danice Uyesugi Racing Update
"If you never did you should. These things are fun and good" - Dr. Seuss
05.15.12 The 2012 racing season is underway! My season began with the first race of the NW Cup series held in Port Angeles WA on April 8th. It was a great weekend from start to finish - very little rain, fast shuttles, FUN course, friendly people, and overall a very well organized event.
Other than a quick 30 min test ride after being built this was my Intense M9's first real ride, and it felt absolutely amazing! I'd had my suspension set up by local company Suspension Therapy just prior to the race and apparently that's all it needed. My bike felt balanced and solid whether I was riding through braking bumps, G-‐outs, steep techy sections, sharp corners, high speed wide open areas, or pedaling along the flats. There's nothing like the feeling of being able to trust your bike and components regardless of what happens on the trail - it definitely helps to instill confidence, and every racer knows how important that is. My race run went smoothly and I ended up on the podium in 5th, a mere 0.4 seconds behind 4th.
I had such a good time there that I headed back down this past weekend for round 2 of the NW Cup which also happened to be the 1st in the Pro GRT series. Some of the fastest riders in the world were there which was great to watch. The course amazing and, like the previous course, had a little of everything. After 3 days of practice I felt calm and prepared going into my race and had a smooth clean run, finishing 6th -‐ 0.05 seconds off of 5th place and the podium... and I thought 0.4 seconds was close! It was another excellent weekend making for a great start to the season!
Next up is one of my favorites, a local race called the Sunshine Coaster. Then it's NW Cup #3 and before heading off to Quebec for Canada Cup #1 at Mt Tremblant. I have a lot to look forward to!
