Kyle Thomas update
05.15.12 April has come and gone and it was a great one! After breaking my hand in early March, I was sidelined until the middle of April. I had to miss the first few races of the season, but I didn't just want to sit at home. I hopped in the van and still went out to support my teammate and represent my sponsors. I actually learned a lot from watching the races. I was amazed at the way some people practiced and have changed the way I want to approach a weekend because of it. It also gave me a chance to answer questions about all of the products I'm running for the year. People are really excited about the set up for this year!
I got my cast off right before Sea Otter. My first time back on a DH bike was Friday DH practice. I was a little rusty, but it came back quickly. I felt a little slow after having to sit on the couch for the last two months, but the training program is now in full swing. I got a little to overzealous in my race run and ended up crashing hard. Luckily, my Kali helmet and Leatt combo took the impact and after a sore neck for a few days, I was fine.
The next weekend was the Pro GRT, Gran Prix, NW Cup at Port Angeles. I felt great in practice and was loving the track. My bike worked flawlessly and I ended up qualifying 23rd against a stacked world cup level field. Not bad for just getting back in the swing of things. A few little mistakes in my race run dropped me to 27th, but I was satisfied with where I placed considering there were over 100 pro men and I've been on the couch. A few weeks of training and I'll have the legs to push even harder next time.
This month has the last Port Angeles round of the NW cup, followed by the 10 day Diamondback team trip through Oregon. We'll be shooting photos for print media and web content for the next year. I've been keeping my website updated with race reports, weekend updates, and my injury - recovery process. Follow along at www.KyleThomasBikes.com
Thanks for all the support and I'll see you guys at the next event!
