Lukas Flueckiger Takes 2nd Place at Prestigious Swiss Bike Trophy
06.05.12 Trek World Racings Luk Flueckiger fulfilled a big dream by finishing high up on the podium at Sundays Swiss Bike Trophy race held near his home in Bern. Luk finished 2nd to Olympic Champion Julien Absalon (FRA) who has now won the Swiss Bike Trophy, a UCI category HC race, for the 4th time. Luks 2nd place earns him a healthy 70 points towards the UCI World Rankings.
In rainy conditions, something Luk has been hoping to see at this event for years, Luk finished 1m and 2 secs behind Absalon, and just ahead of confirmed London Olympians Ralph Nf (SUI) and Nino Schurter (SUI) in 3rd and 4th respectively, while German champion Moritz Milatz finished fifth. Luk said: I was waiting for the rain! I dropped back a bit on the first climb, but after that it all went well. I had a good motivation and new goals coming into this race. I like the race in Bern and Im always fully motivated to give everything. But this year after the small break following La Bresse World Cup it was hard to get back into the race rhythm. I had some problems in the first lap to follow the leaders and was back in 10th, but I caught up time on the 2nd lap and then lap by lap got closer to Julien. So in the end I finished just 1 minute behind him. Im happy about the race and the confidence that I can ride very well right now.
Luks brother Math finished 13th and is now preparing to travel to Moscow for this weekends European XC Championships, which Luk is opting to miss.
