Lukas Flueckiger Wins Swiss National XC Round 5
07.16.12 Trek World Racings Luk Flueckiger won the 5th round of the BMC Racer Cup in Davos, Switzerland, yesterday on a course that had been dampened by overnight rain. Luk, who has been showing great form in 2012, proved that he is on the right way for the end of the season with upcoming major events such as the World Championships in September, the finals of the UCI World Cup later this month in Val dIsere, France, and this weekends Swiss National Championships. Heres what Luk had to say about his race yesterday:
I had a solid race and led from the first lap. After 2 weeks of hard training and with just 2 days of recovery I felt pretty tired coming into the event. Despite this, everything went well, much better than I expected. In the middle of the race I had just 1 lap where motivation was problem because the race was more and less like a time tail for me. Normally there are other riders to pursue, but this was a solitary affair and I needed to maintain rhythm and focus, so I started setting new smaller goals in the race. Fortunately I won the race with more then 1 minute gap over Cannondales Martin Gujan.
The track was not really technical but with the rain overnight there were some tricky and slippery sections. It was a good test for Val dIsere because Davos is also close to 1800m in altitude. I felt good at this height and had no problem with the thin air or colder conditions. I opted for the Superfly hardtail with a single chainring up front and for tires I ran the Bontrager XR 1-29, in 2.00 width in profile on a Dugast Tubular. This was the best option for the wet and slippery conditions. Now I look forward to the Swiss Championships this coming weekend in Balgach.
