FOX athletes triumph in off-road desert race in Mexico
Bryce Menzies takes the SCORE Trophy Truck win at the Baja 500, extending FOXs winning streak; Luke McMillin and Justin Smith dominate the Class 1 Unlimited field.
06.07.12 Bryce Menzies and Luke McMillin held nothing back as they roared through Baja Californias desolate terrain to the checkered flag. The win by Menzies earns FOX its 10th straight SCORE Desert Series Trophy Truck racing victory dating back to November 2009.
Thousands of spectators lined the 450-mile course to watch reigning champion Menzies earn his second SCORE Baja 500 win with an amazing performance after starting 19th off the line.
After a grueling nine hours, 13 minutes and 39 seconds, the Las Vegas racing champion crossed the finish line, averaging 48.77 mph, capturing the victory by 11 seconds.
"It was an incredibly difficult race. In order to challenge the lead pack of racers, I had to run at top speeds in Bajas blinding dust. Without complete driver confidence in my FOX suspension package on the No. 1 Red Bull Trophy Truck, I could not have charged as hard as I did. FOX technology gives me an edge over the competition and I took full advantage of it all the way to victory lane," Menzies said.
Besting a strong field of SCORE Unlimited Class 1 racers, McMillin and his racing partner Justin Smith, also a FOX athlete, won by a more than an hour. The teams winning time of nine hours, 53 minutes and 22 seconds ranked fifth overall among all racers.
McMillin and Smith joined forces last year; earlier this season they decisively beat the competition in their Class 1 debut at the SCORE San Felipe 250.
McMillin Racings youngest driver added his name to a long list of legendary SCORE Baja 500 racing champions with this victory, including his father, grandfather, uncle and cousins.
"Today was definitely a racing challenge," McMillan said. "Weve tested and tuned the truck as well as our FOX suspension for weeks before the race and all the hard work paid off. This win is very special to our family and we could not have done it without the dedication of the technicians at FOX who have developed this incredible suspension technology allowing us to race at the speeds we do."
Since the 2009 SCORE Baja 1000, FOX racers have been victorious in each of the SCORE Desert Series Trophy Truck races. The industry-leading ride dynamics company has a chance to extend its streak at the 45th SCORE Baja 500 this November in Mexico.
