Jesse Jones WINS overall at Parker 425
Jones Motorsports kicked off the 2011 Best in the Desert Series in style, claiming the overall victory at the Blue Water Parker 425.
We had a dusty, but great day, said Jones. We had some mechanical issues at qualifying and some electrical issues on race day but we ran a smart race, let the competition come to us and made no mistakes. The Geiser built Trick Truck was never passed on the race course during its 425 mile battle with a fierce field of 250+ competitors and the Arizona desert.
The mild weathered Parker day made for dusty conditions when passing traffic on the 3 lap race. We had no flats, another perfect day on BFGoodrich tires, smiled co-driver Joe Weining, We lost our GPS antennas during part of the race, making navigating through the dusty conditions even more difficult, but Jesse did a great job making calculated, smooth decisions.
The Best part of the Parker 425 overall win? Being first on the road, first into the finish and taking the checkered flag, explained Jones. Jesse is no stranger to 1st place finishes in his last few races, but back-of-the pack drawing positions instead of qualifying at previous races had him start behind as many as 30 other trucks. Jones worked his way through the pack and has conquered first place finishes on elapsed times, but this is first physical First since his 2009 Trick Truck win at the BITD Silver State 300. Its always great to win races, but the excitement of being first across the finish line is a well deserved feeling!
This was the first win, but also the first green flag for the new #76 Trick Truck. This Geiser Bros 775hp machine was built last year for Larry Ragland to prerun his section of the Baja 1000. This year, it serves as the second truck in the Jones arsenal in a two series race schedule.
This victory continues a great start to the 2011 two truck two series schedule for Jones Motorsports. Jones is now 1st in points for the Best in the Desert Series and in hot pursuit of his second career BITD Trick Truck championship title. In the SCORE desert series, Jones holds the #1 number plate as the 2010 Trophy Truck Champion. After a 2nd place finish at the Laughlin Desert Challenge last month, Jones is only 6 points away from the lead. The team heads back to Baja March 11th for the SCORE San Felipe 250 where he claimed the Trophy Truck victory last year.
