How does FOX contribute to your success?
They sponsor me and the team with shocks and put in countless hours testing with us, and Rick's support at the races is a big part of my success.
Tell us about your bike/vehicle setup.
Well here is where I would like to mention some of my sponsors because that's what makes the setup on my bike work so well. I ride a DS450 with Holz arms, FOX shocks, Precision stabilizer, DWT wheels/tires, Motoworks exh, Renthal bars, Beringer brake cyl, Motoworks engine mods, K&N filter, and Motul oils. Then the guys at the race shop puts it all together and Super Rick from FOX dials in my shocks for the track I'm headed to.
What else is in your garage?
Well I had a honda 450 but I gave it away, now other than my bikes it's (my mechanic) Gilbert's bike he doesn't have time to fix his own he's too busy working on mine and my teammate Josh Frederick's bikes.
What's your training regimen?
I do the gym five or six times a week and ride with one of my teammates as often as I can. I make a point to ride at least three times a week but try to go four or five.
Any major injuries, and how did you recover?
I have had a few but one that I will never forget is the one in Phoenix, AZ. I broke all my ribs on one side, collapsed a lung, broke my shoulder, punctured a kidney and was sore all over. It just took some time to recover and that was the year I knew I had to come back from it in order to win the Pro-Am championship.
What's your typical pre-race/event meal? Guilty pleasure?
Whole grain foods and a banana before the race.
How do you determine which races or events to enter each year?
Team Can-am, Motoworks and Johnny Leach determine the races that I go to. I have attended a few on my own just for practice and these help me keep in touch with just how expensive it is to go to the races. I'm very thankful for what my team does for me.
What motivated you to get started professionally?
My dad raced and owned an ATV repair shop. That made it easy for me because he kept me with a running quad all the time.
What separates you from other professional athletes?
I don't think there is much that separates all of us quad professionals, that's what makes it so competitive. But from some other professional sports our bodies take a beating. There's times I have told my dad he should have put me in golf when I was little.
What would you be doing if you weren't a professional athlete?
I'm sure I would have to be working somewhere and maybe have a few college classes but I can't imagine anything other than racing.
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
I think it keeps me motivated to stay in shape.
What other sports are you interested in?
I like basketball and football, really anything that is active.
Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
Yea, never give up.
