How does FOX contribute to your success?
They make a quality product that works, but also rider support and the testing is really helpful to learn how to tune and evolve a setup for different situations.
Tell us about your bike/vehicle setup.
Have a little fleet of Norco Bikes. Gotta have the right tool for the job. TR450 for DH, Double for slalom, Bank for 4X, and Covert for training.
What else is in your garage?
Tools, parts, my old bikes I won world titles on, some spare XC bikes, and a lot of crap in boxes.
What's your training regimen?
A lot of time on the bike, working on skills and fitness, couple days a week at the gym.
Any major injuries, and how did you recover?
Had both knees reconstructed at different times - 10 years apart, lacerated kidney, hyper extended elbow, broken fingers, and a few concussions. Recovered by resting and looking after the rehab.
What's your typical pre-race/event meal? Guilty pleasure?
Either a sandwich or some pasta with olive oil. Cappuccinos.
How do you determine which races or events to enter each year?
Set goals, then get 'em done. Try to support the best events for riders and media.
What motivated you to get started professionally?
I didn't want to have to sit there and watch my brother have all the fun.
What separates you from other professional athletes?
I surround myself with the things and people I need to be the best I can be. Constantly trying new things and learning.
What would you be doing if you weren't a professional athlete?
Something else that makes me happy.
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
Getting to ride everyday!
What other sports are you interested in?
Used to play soccer on a national team, tennis, hiking, biking, MX, etc. I love to watch NBA, DH skiing, and rally.
Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
Nothing worth having is ever easy.
What are your favorite magazines and websites?
Really like print mag for art stuff. For MTB: Dirt, Vital, Pinkbike, Decline, nytimes.com, racerx.com, etc.
Favorite movie quote?
"You brought a ----ing Pomeranian bowling?"
"What do you mean 'brought it bowling?' I didn't rent it shoes. I'm not buying it a ----ing beer. He's not gonna take your ----ing turn, Dude."
"First of all, Dude, you don't have an ex, secondly, it's a ----ing show dog with ----ing papers. You can't board it. It gets upset, its hair falls out."
"----ing dog has papers, Dude."
