How does FOX contribute to your success?
FOX gives me confidence in my racing because I know the product is high quality, dependable and perfect for racing Xterra. Typically, Xterra courses are a variety of terrain which makes the Terralogic the ideal product as it automatically adjusts to the trail conditions to optimize efficiency, saving me both mental and physical energy.
Tell us about your bike/vehicle setup.
Orbea Alma 29er. Hardtail with the 32 FLOAT 29 Terralogic on front
What else is in your garage?
Between my boyfriend and I we have 8 bikes in the garage, bike stand, toolbench and my trusty little Kia hatchback adventure wagon!
What's your training regimen?
Train Hard and consistently! Swim, Bike, Run, weights, yoga, repeat!
Any major injuries, and how did you recover?
No, thankfully!
What's your typical pre-race/event meal? Guilty pleasure?
Don't have a typical pre-race meal per se, it changes often; my favorites are egg sandwiches with avocado on whole wheat toast or a hard boiled egg and toast, oatmeal or cereal. I don't really have "guilty pleasures"- my philosophy is to have a diet foundation of quality, healthful meals, everything is ok in moderation and restricting foods only makes me want them more!
How do you determine which races or events to enter each year?
XTERRA US Points series, Nationals and Worlds are definites, then I look for other Xterras and some mountain bike races to fill in the gaps.
What motivated you to get started professionally?
I was racing amateur and finishing among the pros so I figured as long as I was finishing in the money I may as well be eligible to take some home!
What separates you from other professional athletes?
My relaxed attitude on race day. Staying relaxed helps me perform at my best.
What would you be doing if you weren't a professional athlete?
Strength and Conditioning Coaching and racing XTERRA as an amateur for fun!
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
Traveling to new places, meeting new people and teaching and sharing my experiences with other athletes.
What other sports are you interested in?
I love both snow and waterskiing, cyclocross riding, watching hockey
Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
I like the following quote by Theodore Roosevelt because it's better to try and fail than to not try at all and live with the regret of not trying.
"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
Theodore Roosevelt
What are your favorite magazines and websites?
Wholeliving.com and Stonyfield.com for healthy, wholesome recipes and information about clean living
Favorite movie quote?
From "Miracle"
Herb Brooks: "Again. Again. Come on Craig blow the whistle. Again."
Mike Eruzione: "Mike Eruzione! Winthrop, Massachusetts!"
Herb: "Who do you play for?"
Mike E: "I play for the United States of America!"
Herb: "That's all gentlemen!"
Who is your hero?
Both of my parents. They have both been through some very trying times and never give up. They keep their heads up, push onward and help others learn from their experiences.
