How does FOX contribute to your success?
FOX helps our team with the best technology and engineering available. In our years of racing on a variety of their shocks, we have never had a failure.
Tell us about your best race or event and how it changed you.
I think my best race was winning the overall at the Blackwell 250 in our rock racer. We beat out class 1's and trophy trucks in the same truck we won rockcrawls with!
Tell us about your bike/vehicle setup.
I run FOX products on my AMSOIL rock racer and my AMSOIL Nissan Pro-light.
What else is in your garage?
My race trucks fight for space in the shop with my 1946 Willy's Jeep and my 1976 Ford Bronco.
What's your training regimen?
Right now I am hitting the gym a couple times a week and getting as much seat time as I can.
Any major injuries, and how did you recover?
What's your typical pre-race/event meal? Guilty pleasure?
I eat light before races. I once had a nice, big meal with eggs, bacon, etc. before a desert race. Only did that once.
How do you determine which races or events to enter each year?
We like to enter a variety of races during the year. We like doing a little bit of everything Off-Road. This year, we will race TORC short course, Ultra 4, desert, the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, some BITD, King of the Hammers, etc.
What motivated you to get started professionally?
I started racing full-time when my twin boys were born. At that point there was not enough time for work, family, and racing. Something had to go.
What separates you from other professional athletes?
I guess I'm a little different than other professional athletes because I do just about everything - own the team with my brother, design and maintain the trucks, get sponsors, do PR stuff... I wear many hats.
What would you be doing if you weren't a professional athlete?
Try to be racing professionally.
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
The best thing about racing professionally is the absence of monotony. I get to travel a lot, spend time with my family, and do what I love.
What other sports are you interested in?
I would love to try rally racing someday.
Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
Anyone who wants to be a pro needs to be patient and work harder than the guys that are pro. Once you are pro, you STILL need to be patient and work harder than the guys that are pro.
What are your favorite magazines and websites?
I always read Dirtsports cover to cover and check out Pirate4x4.com and Race-dezert.com
Favorite movie quote?
Who is your hero?
I don't have heroes but I have competitors that I look up to and model. Chad Hord, Rob McChachren, Shannon Campbell, and Rod Hall all come to mind.
