How does FOX contribute to your success?
FOX helps me with top of the line shocks and equipment to keep me safe and allow me to push the limits of the sports I compete in.
Tell us about your best race or event and how it changed you.
X-Games this year was my best event to date with a silver medal in "best trick" and a bronze medal in freestyle! Also, the huge headlines on ESPN and X Center for the Tandem back flip that Colten and I performed really took the sport to another level.
Tell us about your bike/vehicle setup.
I currently have a couple setups. First, our quads are Polaris 525 Outlaws which are setup for freestyle including FOX FLOAT X EVOL's up front and a re-valved rear shock to keep the landings soft. Our Winter X Game's sleds are also outfitted front and back with FOX shocks that save our wrists and ankles whenever we decide to not use the landing! haha.
What else is in your garage?
Too much to list really, but for starters, a couple street bikes, Polaris RZR-XP, Polaris RZR, a few dirt bikes, as well as a load of sleds and a ton more Polaris quads.
What's your training regimen?
I try to eat fairly healthy with as much home cooking as our travelling will allow. I just currently had ACL repair surgery so no crazy training regimen for me right now. But, a lot of physical therapy and upper body conditioning until my knee catches up. Then, it will be back to riding several times a week and keep pushing the limits of what can be done.
Any major injuries, and how did you recover?
Well the current is the torn ACL and meniscus in my left knee, which I am currently going through a lot of therapy to strengthen that back up. Things are going well. Past injuries include a broken right hand, broken scaphoid in right wrist, which now has a bone graph and screw in place. A broken right ankle that has a couple screws in place, a dislocated collar bone, and I believe I'm at about 8 concussions If I can remember them all. With any injury, constant working out and therapy is key to making a fast comeback.
What's your typical pre-race/event meal? Guilty pleasure?
Mostly I just try to get in a good practice before any event and make sure I know the course very well as well as knowing what I'm going to do in the event. As far as guilty pleasure, I don't know if I really have one. I would say mostly keeping things random and crazy is what I'm all about and that's what gets me going. Whether it's jumping off something really high into water, or driving something beyond normal limits, it's all about the adrenaline. But if I were to pick one thing it would definitely be riding my street bike on a track.
How do you determine which races or events to enter each year?
I decide which events will bring the most competition and difficulty to the plate and that's what I want to go to and win. I just want to be the best. Simple as that.
What motivated you to get started professionally?
The Huevos ATV movie series is where I first saw the sport of freestyle and immediately decided I wanted to go big and do things never done before.
What separates you from other professional athletes?
My commitment to being the best and willingness to risk it all to make that happen.
What would you be doing if you weren't a professional athlete?
I would probably be a mechanic on something crazy and fast. That's what I do in my off time, is just working on quads, sleds, and bikes. It's relaxing for me to tear something down to the frame and rebuild it.
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
Getting to travel, seeing the world and experiencing all the world's different cultures.
What other sports are you interested in?
Street bike racing, snowboarding, and maybe one day, Off-Road truck racing.
Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
Never give up, practice hard but be smart while doing so. You can't get better if you're always in the hospital because of taking a chance doing something you weren't truly prepared for.
What are your favorite magazines and websites?
ATV Rider, Dirt Wheels, Maxim, or for website mags, it's atvriders.com, atvscene.com, or break.com for the latest and greatest hard hits by your everyday average Joe's...
Favorite movie quote?
"That's not a knife, this is a knife."
Who is your hero?
I don't really have a hero I guess. I have a few people I look up to including my dad, mom, and brother. We're a pretty tight family and always support each other.
